Selected images from research trips to the Mer de Glace in Chamonix, England’s Lake Disrict and the Italian Dolomite Mountains, with Dr Emma Sdegno, professor at the University of Venice and author of several books on the Victorian polymath John Ruskin.

A number of these images and other views shot around the same period were exhibited at the Ca’Foscari university in Venice in December 2025 alongside reproductions of Ruskin’s own 1850’s Daguerrotypes, as a modern perspective of the mountains and glaciers he visited.
